HAROON SHELLY CAUGHT IN HUDDERSFIELD PAEDOPHILE STING

In December 2017, a disturbing incident unfolded in Huddersfield involving a pensioner named Haroon Shelly, aged 86, who became the subject of a covert operation by dedicated paedophile hunting teams.

Shelly, a resident of Fleminghouse Lane, Waterloo, was caught attempting to engage in sexual activities with what he believed to be a teenage boy, after grooming him through online communications.

Initially, Shelly denied any wrongdoing when he appeared at Leeds Crown Court in February 2018.

However, subsequent evidence and court proceedings revealed a different story.

It was established that Shelly had actively contacted an online profile he believed belonged to a 14-year-old boy.

Over several weeks, he exchanged sexually explicit messages and images, clearly indicating his intent to pursue a sexual encounter with the minor.

The situation escalated when Shelly arranged to meet the boy in person.

Unbeknownst to him, the meeting was part of a sting operation conducted by the paedophile hunting team known as 'N-Force Justice.' This team was operating on behalf of another organization called 'Catching Online Predators.' During the encounter, Shelly was confronted and questioned about his online activities by members of the team.

The operation culminated in his arrest in December 2017.

Following his arrest, Shelly faced serious charges in court.

The judge sentenced him to nine months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period.

Additionally, Shelly was ordered to participate in a 50-day rehabilitation program aimed at addressing sexual harm behaviors.

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was also imposed, remaining in effect until further notice, to restrict his activities and protect the community.

Furthermore, Shelly was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and community groups in Huddersfield to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals.

The authorities continue to emphasize vigilance and proactive measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
