HAROLD TURNER FROM WEST DRAYTON SENT TO JAIL FOR CHILD ABUSE CRIMES
In a significant development in the fight against child abuse, Harold Turner, a resident of West Drayton, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after a lengthy investigation into his past crimes. Turner, aged 74 and living on Rowan Road in West Drayton, was found guilty of multiple serious offenses related to the abuse of a young boy spanning over a decade.Between the years 1965 and 1976, Turner committed a total of 24 acts of indecent assault against his young victim. These heinous acts, which occurred over a period of more than ten years, were finally brought to justice after a series of investigations that spanned several decades. Turner also faced charges related to the possession of indecent images, to which he admitted guilt, acknowledging 11 counts of possessing such material.
At the Isleworth Crown Court, the court heard detailed accounts of the victim, who is now in his 40s, and how he initially reported the abuse to police in 2001. However, due to health issues at the time, the victim was unable to fully support the investigation, which led to a delay in proceedings. It was not until 2009 that the victim re-established contact with law enforcement, prompting a renewed investigation into Turner's actions.
Detective Sergeant Andy Gunning, a member of the Metropolitan Police’s child abuse investigation team, emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance. He stated, “I believe there may be more victims of Turner and I hope that knowing that he has been put behind bars will encourage anyone else who has been affected to come forward.” The case highlights the long and difficult process of bringing offenders to justice, especially when crimes span many years and involve victims who are reluctant or unable to report earlier.
Harold Turner’s conviction marks a significant step in addressing historical child abuse cases in West Drayton and serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance in seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes.
