JUDGE SENTENCES CONVICTED RAPIST TO ADDITIONAL 18 YEARS FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES
A man named Harold Nicholson, aged 75, who was already serving a 20-year sentence for rape, has been sentenced to an additional 18 years in prison for historic sexual offences after a new victim came forward.
He was convicted of raping a young girl repeatedly during the 1990s, following a trial three years ago.
After his initial conviction, another victim, who was abused between the 1990s and mid-2000s, revealed her ordeal.
A jury found Nicholson guilty of four counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, and a charge of making threats to kill.
During her imprisonment in Nicholson's home, the victim was kept captive in a room for up to two days, during which Nicholson raped her, wrapped a telephone cord around her neck, and left her in such fear that she begged him to kill her to end the suffering.
The victim tragically died before the new trial took place.
Nicholson, formerly residing in Holywell Crescent, Carlisle, is considered a dangerous individual.
Detective Constable Kerry Gibson, who supervised the case, paid tribute to the victim's bravery and expressed gratitude for her family's help in seeking justice.
Despite her absence, her courage helped bring Nicholson to face court again.
The court heard during the proceedings that he had once kept the victim imprisoned for two days during which he assaulted her with a telephone cord and threatened her life, pushing her into a terrifying ordeal.
