FORMER RELIGIOUS TEACHER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
A former Islamic teacher aged 71 from Ipswich has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of numerous historical sexual offenses.Hafez Ashraf Uddin, who lives on Wivenhoe Road in Barking, London, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on 21 November.
He received a 12-year prison sentence, was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, and was also subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The court found Uddin guilty of 13 counts of indecent assault during a trial that lasted nearly four weeks, culminating on 5 June.
The crimes involved six victims girls aged between seven and 14 that occurred over a period from 1985 to 1999.
Uddin was initially charged with 22 counts concerning seven girls.
He was convicted of 13 offenses and cleared of nine.
The incidents included allegations such as Uddin placing his hand inside one victim’s trousers and engaging in multiple acts of touching or squeezing the girls’ breasts.
Among the convictions, four involved multiple assault counts per charge, with each of these cases including at least five separate assaults.
This means the total number of assaults likely exceeds 29.
