GUY ROSS FROM IPSWICH SENTENCED FOR DOWNLOAD OF OVER 23,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Ipswich, Guy Ross, a 43-year-old resident of Holcombe Crescent, has been convicted of possessing a vast collection of indecent images of children.The incident came to light on May 14 of the previous year when police officers executed a search warrant at Ross's home.
During the operation, they confiscated multiple electronic devices, including a laptop computer, which were later subjected to detailed forensic analysis.
The examination of Ross's devices revealed a disturbing cache of illegal material.
Among the files found were five images classified at the most severe level A, indicating the most explicit and harmful content.
Additionally, there were 42 images categorized under level B, and an alarming total of 23,733 indecent images classified at level C, which is considered the lowest level but still illegal.
The devices also contained four movies depicting child exploitation, further underscoring the severity of the case.
Ross, who admitted to making indecent images of children, faced the court with these charges.
The Ipswich Crown Court sentenced him to eight months in prison, but the term was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Ross was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work and participate in a 35-day rehabilitation activity order aimed at addressing his behaviour.
Furthermore, the court imposed a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) that will restrict Ross's activities for the next ten years.
He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
Judge Martyn Levett, who presided over the case, highlighted that Ross's interest in child exploitation material reportedly began after he grew bored with adult pornography.
The court was informed that Ross has no prior criminal convictions and had previously engaged in a 'Stop it Now!' programme, which is designed to prevent child sexual abuse and promote awareness.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Ipswich to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from harm.
