GUY GREATOREX FROM BRAMHALL AND STOCKPORT JAILED FOR CHILD EXPLOITATION AND INDECENT IMAGES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Bramhall and Stockport, Guy Greatorex, aged 25, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses involving underage girls. The crimes, which took place primarily in the Stockport area, involved the manipulation and exploitation of young teenagers through social media platforms.

Greatorex, a resident of Woodford Road in Bramhall, was convicted on seven counts of inciting girls aged between 14 and 16 to participate in acts of pornography. These charges stemmed from a series of interactions where he persuaded vulnerable young girls to send explicit images in exchange for cigarettes, alcohol, and money. The case also included a conviction for possessing indecent images of children, a crime uncovered during police investigations.

The investigation was triggered when officers visited a 14-year-old girl in Reddish on May 8, 2012. The girl was identified as being at risk of exploitation, and during the police interview, she revealed that Greatorex had attempted to contact her and her friends through social networking sites. According to her account, Greatorex had asked the girls for nude photographs, which they sent in exchange for cigarettes, alcohol, and money. He also reportedly inquired whether they aspired to become porn stars, further highlighting his predatory behavior.

Following this disclosure, law enforcement officials conducted a raid on Greatorex’s residence on May 16, 2012. During the search, officers seized two computers, a PC tower, and a laptop. An examination of his phone revealed the presence of 60 indecent images classified as level one, indicating the images were of a child sexual nature.

Detective Constable Steve Lowe, a member of Stockport’s Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, emphasized the dangers posed by social media platforms like Facebook. He stated, “Social networking sites have transformed the way we interact with people and are extremely popular forums for young people to communicate with their friends. I want to highlight this case to stress how extremely important it is that parents and guardians are mindful of who their children are speaking to on social media sites and perhaps speak to them of the associated dangers of speaking to and sharing material with strangers. There are people out there like Greatorex who will use social networking to befriend vulnerable under-age girls and exploit them for their own sexual gratification.”

Greatorex’s sentencing took place at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday, September 23, where he was formally sentenced for his crimes. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks associated with online interactions and the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians to protect young people from exploitation.
