GURINDER SINGH FROM SUTTON COLDFIELD SENTENCED FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND VIOLENCE

Gurinder Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Boldmere in Sutton Coldfield, has been found guilty of a prolonged campaign of controlling and coercive behavior directed at his partner. The court heard that over a span of four months, Singh engaged in a series of psychologically abusive acts designed to intimidate and dominate his partner. These acts included sending her threatening messages, making hundreds of phone calls from hidden numbers to harass her, and issuing threats against her family members. Singh even went as far as to threaten harm to her brother, indicating a disturbing level of intimidation and violence.

Further evidence revealed that Singh hacked into his partner’s WhatsApp account, gaining access to her private communications. He also sent her images depicting a gun and a knife, which served to escalate the fear and intimidation she experienced. In a particularly malicious act, Singh sent intimate photographs of her to her mother, adding a layer of humiliation and distress. The victim recounted that Singh used a decoy Snapchat account to contact her, and he repeatedly called her at her workplace, inquiring about her whereabouts and attempting to monitor her movements.

There was an incident where Singh’s violence became physical; he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall after she tried to stop his car. Singh claimed he was feeling sick at the time, but this did not mitigate the violent act. Prosecutor Rachel Pennington described how Singh’s behavior grew increasingly aggressive and controlling, leaving his partner feeling trapped and unable to end the relationship out of fear of further threats and intimidation.

Singh’s actions culminated in his detention, and he was subsequently sentenced to 21 months in prison. The Birmingham Crown Court was told that Singh’s controlling conduct persisted until the end of 2019, after which he reportedly ceased his threats and alcohol consumption. It was noted that he entered into a new relationship following this period. Nonetheless, the court emphasized the seriousness of Singh’s conduct, which included acts of violence, harassment, and psychological abuse, leading to his conviction on multiple charges.
