March 2000 Man admits to having child pornography video Child pornography was discovered on a video tape at a Witham man’s home, a court heard. Chelmsford magistrates heard how police officers had found the tape in a drawer at Grant Ayling’s Greenfield house in July last year. Ayling, 48, was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 costs at the court yesterday after admitting possessing indecent material involving children at a previous hearing. Mark McDonald, prosecuting, told the court officers entered Ayling’s home and informed him that they were looking for pornography involving children. “The video was of an adult nature. At the end of the video were three short films involving young persons in pornographic situations,” said Mr McDonald. “He said he has never reproduced the video and has never shown it to any other person.” Russell Haldane, mitigating, told the court Ayling purchased the video as part of a job-lot from a car boot sale several years ago. He said: “My client knew nothing of the content. He discovered that one of them contained images of children. He was shocked. “My client realises now that he should have destroyed this tape.” Mr Haldane added: “My client will continue to endure the stigma attached to those who admit offences of this nature.”
