DRUNK DEWSBURY MAN JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING PARTNER OVER FACEBOOK MESSAGES
Graham Whitehead, aged 35, became aggressive and physically assaulted his partner of 19 years after discovering Facebook messages between her and another man.
The incident occurred at her home in Hazel Crescent, Dewsbury, on May 4.
The court was informed that Whitehead had previous convictions including assault and affray.
His solicitor stated that he was extremely upset upon finding these messages, especially since the same man had previously been in contact with his late sister.
The court heard that Whitehead had a severe alcohol problem which contributed to his actions.
Lesley Cowling, representing him, said he was intoxicated and could not remember exactly what transpired.
Whitehead was found to have scratches on his neck, which he sustained during the altercation.
The court sentenced him to a community order with six months of alcohol treatment and 60 hours of unpaid work, also imposing a fine of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.
The judge commented that the incident was 'ugly' and caused significant distress and fear to his partner.
Whitehead is also due to be sentenced for dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, and driving without a licence or insurance at Leeds Crown Court.
He resides in Chickenley.
