WORCESTER SOCIAL WORKER GRAHAM SUTTERBY STRUCK OFF OVER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a significant disciplinary action, Graham Charles Sutterby, a social worker based in Worcester, has been formally removed from the professional register following his conviction related to the possession of indecent images of children.The case was heard at Worcester Crown Court, where Sutterby faced multiple serious charges.
On September 10, 2012, Sutterby was found guilty of four counts of creating indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child, alongside two additional counts involving the possession of extreme pornographic images.
The court's judgment resulted in a 36-month community sentence, which included mandatory participation in a community sexual offending group work programme.
Additionally, he was ordered to contribute £1,200 towards prosecution costs.
During the investigation, Sutterby initially failed to cooperate with police inquiries.
However, he ultimately entered a guilty plea during the court proceedings.
The conduct and competence committee of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) reviewed his case and heard details of his court admission.
Despite this, the panel noted that Sutterby had shown no evidence of remorse or steps taken to address his behavior.
Sarah Baalham, the chair of the HCPC conduct and competence panel, emphasized the panel’s concerns, stating that they had received “no information to suggest he has taken any steps to remedy his behaviour or shown any insight.” It was also noted that Sutterby was neither present nor represented at the disciplinary hearing.
In its decision, the panel decided to remove Sutterby from the professional register, citing the seriousness of his offences.
Baalham explained, “The offences committed by the registrant are not isolated incidents; they therefore carry a risk of repetition and are viewed by the panel as very serious.” The panel’s ruling underscores the gravity with which such violations are regarded within the profession, especially when they involve the exploitation of children and the possession of extreme material.
