GRAHAM STANFORD BRISTOL PAEDOPHILE PENSIONER SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR CHILD ABUSE
In January 2018, the city of Bristol was once again shaken by revelations of serious child abuse involving Graham Stanford, a pensioner with a disturbing history of offending.Stanford, who resides on Carrington Road in Bristol, had previously been convicted of child abuse over two decades earlier, but new allegations and victims have surfaced, leading to his re-incarceration.
Back in 1994, Stanford, then known as Graham Dear, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after admitting to molesting three young boys.
His criminal record was a stark reminder of his past, but it was only with the emergence of additional victims that the full extent of his misconduct was uncovered.
It was revealed that Stanford had also abused two young girls, details that had previously gone unnoticed or unreported.
Initially, Stanford denied any wrongdoing, maintaining his innocence during the proceedings.
However, he eventually pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault, which resulted in a significant prison sentence.
Judge Richard Bromilow sentenced him to 40 months behind bars, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.
The judge remarked, “At the time your victims were children, they were innocent and they were in the throes of growing up in their childhood, much of which lay in front of them.
You know that these are very grave offences.” In addition to his prison sentence, Stanford was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which was made indefinite by the court.
This order was intended to prevent any future offending and included a requirement for him to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
The court aimed to impose strict measures to protect the community from further harm.
Prosecutor David Maunder provided details of Stanford’s misconduct, revealing that he had improperly touched one of the children during a playful tickling game on his sofa.
The court also heard that Stanford lured another girl into his home with the specific intent of showing her his collection of spoons.
During this visit, the young girl recounted how Stanford kissed her, touched her inappropriately, and expressed love for her, actions that caused significant distress.
On a subsequent occasion, Stanford put his hand inside the clothing of the same girl and engaged in further improper contact.
The court was also presented with an impact statement from one of the victims, who expressed her feelings about the case.
She stated, “He showed great cowardice in denying what he had done.
He challenged my integrity by calling me a liar.
I’m not a liar.” These revelations underscore the ongoing danger posed by Stanford and highlight the importance of vigilant legal measures to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
The court’s decision to re-imprison him reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are treated in Bristol and the broader effort to safeguard children from sexual abuse.
