GRAHAM OSWIN FROM HUDDERSFIELD CAUGHT IN SHOCKING FACEBOOK SEXUAL CONSPIRACY

In March 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Graham Oswin, a man with a history rooted in Huddersfield, who was caught in a serious online sexual misconduct case that drew significant public and legal attention.

The case was brought to light after a paedophile hunting group, known as One Reason, publicly exposed Oswin through a live-streamed confrontation on Facebook, revealing his inappropriate attempts to engage a 13-year-old boy in sexual activity.

According to court proceedings, Oswin, a pensioner aged 65 at the time, initiated contact with the young teenager via Facebook.

Despite the boy explicitly informing Oswin of his age, the man persisted, expressing that he thought the boy looked very attractive.

The situation escalated when the teenager, concerned about the inappropriate nature of the messages, informed his mother.

Acting on her son's behalf, the mother continued the conversation through Facebook Messenger, posing as her son to gather more information and monitor Oswin’s intentions.

The incident did not go unnoticed.

The police were alerted to Oswin’s behaviour, but the situation was further escalated when the paedophile hunting group, One Reason, was also notified.

Members of this group took it upon themselves to visit Oswin’s residence, which was located in Huddersfield, to confront him directly.

The confrontation was recorded and streamed live on the group's Facebook page last month, drawing widespread attention and concern.

The footage from the live stream quickly garnered hundreds of comments from members of the public, many of whom expressed outrage and disgust.

During the online broadcast, it was revealed that Oswin had previously worked as a bus driver in Huddersfield and Halifax, and he was also said to have been employed as a taxi driver in Calderdale.

These details added to the public’s concern about his past and potential risks.

Oswin’s criminal record was also discussed during the proceedings.

It was revealed that he had a prior conviction for sexual offences dating back to 1979, involving a girl.

This history underscored the seriousness of his current charges.

Oswin ultimately pleaded guilty to charges of sexual communication with a child and attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

Following his arrest, Oswin claimed that his contact with the boy was initiated during what he described as “idle browsing” on Facebook, suggesting a lack of premeditation.

His legal representative, Nigel Jamieson, confirmed that Oswin was met at his home in Huddersfield by members of the paedophile hunting group.

Jamieson argued that Oswin’s actions were driven by a desire to understand his own behaviour and that he was willing to cooperate with the probation service to mitigate any future risks of reoffending.

During sentencing at Bradford Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC acknowledged that Oswin could have faced a 15-month prison sentence if convicted after a trial.

However, due to his guilty pleas, the sentence was reduced to 10 months.

The judge also expressed concern about the current prison system’s tendency toward early release, which would likely see Oswin released with minimal supervision shortly after serving his sentence.

Consequently, the judge decided to suspend the prison term for two years, imposing strict conditions to ensure ongoing monitoring and rehabilitation.

These conditions included a 90-day sex offender treatment programme and 150 hours of community service.

Additionally, Oswin, who resides on Margaret Street near Halifax’s city centre, was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police for the next decade.

He was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his internet use and limits his contact with individuals under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any future offences and protect vulnerable minors.
