GRAHAM MARSDEN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN HULL: CHILD RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY REVEALED
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hull, Graham Marsden, a 45-year-old man residing in Dodthorpe, Orchard Park, has been found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses involving children.The details of his crimes emerged during a court hearing at Hull Crown Court, revealing a pattern of abuse that spanned several years and involved the production and possession of extremely disturbing material.
According to court records, the investigation was initiated after a mother noticed unusual injuries on her young daughter.
The girl, a toddler, had a sore red area on her body, which prompted her mother to seek medical attention.
During her examination, the child demonstrated on a doll where she had been hurt, explicitly stating, “that’s where he hurt me.” The girl also disclosed that Graham Marsden had taken photographs of her during the abuse, and she later told police, “He is bad.” Further forensic analysis revealed that Marsden’s DNA was present on the girl’s clothing, specifically on her pants, confirming her account of abuse.
The police investigation uncovered a collection of illicit images stored on devices found in Marsden’s bedside table.
These devices contained a staggering total of approximately 13,000 indecent images of children, with 513 classified as Category A, the most severe and disturbing type of child exploitation material.
Among these images were photographs that Marsden himself had taken during the sexual assaults on his second victim, a girl older than the toddler.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Marsden’s offending had escalated over time.
By January 2021, his behavior had become increasingly disturbing, with similarities to the content of the images he possessed.
The court heard that Marsden had previously been accused of sexually assaulting an older girl over a two-year period in 2014.
Although she initially confided in others about the abuse, she was pressured into withdrawing her allegations after Marsden accused her of lying.
The court’s recorder, Sandiford QC, expressed outrage at this manipulation, emphasizing that the girl was a child and that Marsden, as an adult, bore full responsibility for his actions.
Graham Marsden initially denied all allegations related to both victims but later pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by penetration of a child under 13.
His guilty plea was entered when he appeared at Hull Crown Court for the first time.
On March 29, 2021, he appeared via video link to be sentenced for a total of nine sexual offenses, including four counts of sexual assault, one count of taking indecent images of children, three counts of making indecent images, and the rape of a child under 13.
In her victim impact statement, Recorder Sandiford QC described the profound effects of Marsden’s crimes on his youngest victim.
The girl has become extremely anxious and fearful, suffering from disturbed sleep and frequent tantrums, sometimes up to five or six times daily.
The court noted that Marsden attempted to justify his actions by claiming voices in his head influenced him, but there was no evidence to support a psychiatric illness.
The judge concluded that Marsden’s sexual interest was clearly focused on very young children, and his denial of gratification was unconvincing.
As a result of his convictions, Graham Marsden faces a potential prison sentence of up to 17 years before parole eligibility.
Additionally, he could serve an extended sentence of three years if deemed a continued danger to the public.
Upon release, he will be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
