84-YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER OF BELOVED GRANDMOTHER IN GALASHIELS
An 84-year-old man named Graham John Hanson has been charged with the murder of Margaret Maude Hanson, aged 84, in the Scottish Borders.
Emergency services responded to reports of her death at around 3.05am on Monday at a property on Wood Street, Galashiels, where Margaret was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hanson appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Tuesday and was charged with murder.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody for further examination.
He is scheduled to appear again within eight days.
In a statement, Hanson’s family expressed their devastation, stating: “We are devastated at the loss of our mum and gran.
Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
We would ask that our privacy be respected at this very difficult time.” Detective inspector Debbie Duncan also commented, “Our thoughts remain with Margaret’s family and friends, who are being supported by specialist officers.
We would again ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
