GRAHAM BERTRAM SENTENCED IN BIRSTALL FOR SHOCKING SPYING AND ABUSE CRIMES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Birstall, Graham Bertram, aged 72, has been handed a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses involving the exploitation and invasion of privacy of teenage girls. The sentencing took place at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday, 5 September, following a detailed investigation into his criminal activities.Bertram was convicted on 23 August of several heinous charges, including two counts of observing a person engaged in a private act, one count of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by touching her, and two counts of supplying a controlled drug classified as Class B. These charges stem from a series of disturbing incidents that came to light during the investigation.
The case centered around an incident in 2015 involving one of the victims, who was only 15 years old at the time. She had visited Bertram’s residence on Hill Rise in Birstall and, upon turning on the television, noticed that the screen displayed a live feed from one of the rooms inside his house. Alarmed by this discovery, she entered the room and uncovered a hidden camera, which she believed had been installed by Bertram to secretly observe her.
Following her discovery, she reported the incident to the police. She also revealed that Bertram had engaged in conversations of an inappropriate nature during their interactions and had, on some occasions, touched her in a manner that was clearly inappropriate and concerning. Her testimony was instrumental in uncovering a pattern of predatory behavior.
Further investigations identified two additional victims, both of whom had visited Bertram’s address during their teenage years. One of these victims confirmed that she had also found a camera at Bertram’s home and disclosed that he had supplied her with amphetamines and cannabis. The other victim recounted that Bertram had inappropriately touched her, adding to the evidence of his predatory conduct.
As part of his sentencing, Graham Bertram has been placed on the sex offenders register and is now subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which aims to restrict his activities and prevent further harm. The case has brought to light serious concerns about safety and privacy in the Birstall community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and reporting in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse.
