GRAHAM BAIN FROM PENRITH AND WHITEHAVEN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CUMBRIA

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Penrith and Whitehaven, Graham Bain, aged 32, was brought before Carlisle Crown Court to face serious allegations related to online child exploitation and possession of indecent images. The proceedings revealed that Bain had engaged in a sexually charged online conversation with what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl, but in reality, he was communicating with an undercover police officer.

During the exchange, Bain sent a lewd video, further demonstrating his intent and willingness to engage in inappropriate conduct. The police investigation uncovered that, following his arrest, authorities discovered multiple child pornography images on his mobile device. Among these were two videos classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of explicit content involving minors.

Graham Bain, who previously resided at Raiselands Croft in Penrith and was later found living in Whitehaven, appeared in court to face eight charges. These charges included four counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, alongside four additional charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The offences were committed in the early months of the previous year, marking a disturbing chapter in his criminal history.

After considering the evidence and hearing mitigation from his legal representatives, Judge Peter Davies sentenced Bain to a 24-month prison term. However, the judge chose to suspend the sentence for two years, meaning Bain will not serve time in prison unless he commits further offences within that period. As part of his sentence, Bain was ordered to undertake a rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his offending behavior. Additionally, he was subjected to a three-month night-time curfew, restricting his movements during late hours.

Furthermore, Bain is required to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for ten years. This order imposes strict restrictions on his activities and contact, designed to protect the public from potential harm. He is also mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and oversight of his conduct in the community.
