GRAEME PHILLIPS AND SHOCKING PAEDOPHILE ACTS IN MERSEYSIDE
Graeme Phillips, a 41-year-old man from Merseyside, became the subject of a Police investigation after engaging in a series of disturbing online communications with what he believed to be underage girls. His actions, which included sending explicit images and making lewd remarks, ultimately led to his confrontation and subsequent court hearing.
The case came to light after Phillips interacted with decoy accounts operated by paedophile hunter groups, specifically the 'Dank Dragons Exposed' team.
Over the course of these chats, he sent explicit selfies and exchanged highly inappropriate messages, believing he was communicating with teenage girls.
His conduct was eventually traced to a pub in Merseyside, where another citizen-led group known as Stop UK confronted him on behalf of the investigators.
Following the confrontation, they performed what is legally termed a citizen's arrest.
During his appearance at Liverpool Crown Court, Phillips pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
The court was told that the man made unsolicited sexualized comments and sent explicit images to the decoy accounts.
Court documents detailed how Phillips initially told one decoy, 'Sarah,' on the 'Meet4U' app that he was 40 and questioned the decoy’s age, saying, 'I think you're too old for me' — yet this was merely a prelude to more disturbing exchanges.
According to the prosecution, the conversations took a sinister turn beginning on December 1, 2021, shortly after 'Sarah' updated her profile picture on WhatsApp.
Phillips responded with flattery, saying, 'You’re beautiful and stunning,' and then proceeded to send a topless photo of himself, describing it in vulgar terms.
He further boasted about having a 'bigger t***' than the decoy, made suggestive comments about whether she wore a bra, and showed a blatant disregard for decency by requesting a 'naughty picture.' Among his more grotesque actions was the act of sending an explicit image of his genitals, in a semi-erect state, and asking her if she thought 'it was nice.' The court also heard that on December 14, Phillips initiated further messages with a different decoy account called ‘Scarlett’—a persona managed by an adult posing as a 14-year-old girl.
His remarks continued to be sexualized, with Phillips claiming to sleep naked and making intrusive questions about her breasts, while also seemingly trying to manipulate her by telling her 'not to tell her mum.' The escalating nature of Phillips’s conduct prompted the 'Dank Dragons Exposed' group to involve Stop UK to help apprehend him.
The confrontation occurred outside the Farmer's Arms pub in the borough of Moreton, Wirral.
When approached, Phillips refused to answer questions from police officers and instead remained silent throughout the interview process.
His defense attorney, Lionel Greig, highlighted Phillips's previously clean record and contextualized his actions by referencing his social isolation during lockdown.
Greig pointed out that Phillips resided with his 71-year-old mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, and noted the recent loss of his father in 2018.
The defense urged the court to consider intervention and psychological support instead of immediate imprisonment, emphasizing the possibility of rehabilitation.
In response, the judge, Recorder Mark Ainsworth, acknowledged the potential for reform and decided not to impose immediate custody.
The judge stated, 'I do believe there is a good prospect of rehabilitation in this case and I have a duty to society.' Phillips was sentenced to a 10-month prison term, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he reoffended within this period.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, complete the Horizon sex offender treatment program, and undertake 40 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was mandated to carry out 250 hours of unpaid community service and placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes severe restrictions on his internet access to prevent further misconduct.
