GRAEME MORRISON BANCHORY SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED IN KIRKCALDY

Graeme Morrison, a 58-year-old man from Raemoir Avenue in Banchory, has been convicted of serious historical sexual offences committed against two young girls in Fife. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned over a decade, involving lewd and indecent acts that left a lasting impact on his victims.

During the sentencing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Morrison was found guilty of six charges related to his misconduct. The offences included forcing one of the girls to perform a sexual act on him and taking explicit photographs of both victims while they were naked. The abuse was committed over a period from the late 1980s to the mid-2000s, with incidents taking place in Glenrothes, Fife.

Details of the crimes are particularly troubling. One of the victims, aged between five and 12 at the time, was coerced by Morrison—who was in his twenties—to enter a sleeping bag with him while he was naked, and she was forced to perform a sexual act. Additionally, Morrison took a photograph of another girl while she was naked and repeatedly made sexual comments towards her during the same age range.

Beyond these acts, Morrison also indecently assaulted a woman at an address in Leven, touching her breasts over her clothing. This incident occurred sometime between November 1982 and November 1983, when Morrison was approximately 16 or 17 years old.

In his sentencing remarks, Sheriff Steven Borthwick emphasized the severity of Morrison’s actions. Instead of a custodial sentence, the court opted for a community disposal, which serves as a direct alternative to imprisonment. Morrison was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work and was subjected to an 18-month curfew, restricting his movements during nighttime hours.

Furthermore, Morrison was placed under offender supervision for a period of three years. As part of his conduct requirements, he is prohibited from having any contact with children under the age of 16 unless it is unavoidable or inadvertent. To ensure ongoing monitoring and public safety, Morrison was also registered on the sex offenders register for five years, marking a significant step in managing his risk to the community.
