CRICKLADE MAN GRAEME LEIGHTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SWINDON

In a serious case that has shocked the community of Cricklade, Graeme Leighton, a 30-year-old resident of the town, was handed a substantial prison sentence after admitting to possessing, creating, and distributing indecent images of children. The sentencing took place at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, 26th July 2013, where Judge Ambrose sentenced Leighton to a term of 2 years and 8 months behind bars.

The investigation into Leighton's activities was initiated in September of the previous year when Wiltshire Police received intelligence from a different police force indicating that Leighton was involved in the production and online sharing of indecent images of minors. Acting swiftly, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence in Cricklade, during which they confiscated several electronic devices and other items for examination.

During police interviews, Leighton confessed to creating indecent images and admitted to sharing them online by providing his passwords to other users, facilitating the distribution of illicit material. A detailed forensic analysis of his seized laptop uncovered over 850 indecent images and videos, revealing a disturbing collection of child exploitation content. Further evidence was found on his iPhone, which contained additional images and videos, underscoring the extent of his involvement in such criminal activities.

Detective Constable Sarah Dalby, a member of the Child Internet Exploitation Team, commented on the case, emphasizing the severity of Leighton's actions. She stated, “It was clear from the examination of material in this case that the offender had progressed from simply accessing and possessing images through to sharing and covertly recording material for his own gratification. Those who view and download indecent images or videos of children fuel a demand for more and more content of this nature.”

She further highlighted the efforts of law enforcement, saying, “This case underscores our commitment to tackling these crimes and working with other forces and partner agencies to combat this issue. We have specialist teams trained to handle all aspects of sexual abuse against both children and adults. Victims can be assured that they will be believed, and all reports will be thoroughly investigated.”
