A man with mental health conditions who brutally stabbed his long-term partner to death with a kitchen knife will be committed to a psychiatric hospital indefinitely.
Gordon White, aged 47, denied the charge of murder but admitted to the lesser offense of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
An evaluation of his mental health determined that he was suffering from a serious mental disorder, which included symptoms such as delusions and paranoia.
The victim, Cheryl Ann Martin, aged 44, died after sustaining more than 20 stab wounds at their residence on Stag Lane in Broom last October.
During the hearing at Sheffield Crown Court, it was revealed that White’s mental health issues stemmed from depression linked to an eye condition that left him almost completely blind, save for the edges of his vision.
