GORDON STANFORTH FROM MOTHERWELL AND TULLIBODY CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 8,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

A man with a history of community involvement and law enforcement experience has been found in possession of an alarming collection of nearly 8,000 child abuse images, including some classified as the most severe. Gordon Stanforth, known for his volunteer work with the Boys’ Brigade and his previous role as a police officer, was subject to legal proceedings after authorities uncovered his extensive digital collection.

Stanforth, who has connections to both Motherwell and Tullibody, claimed that the images were part of a research project. However, law enforcement officials emphasized the harmful and exploitative nature of his collection, which raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children depicted in the images. The court heard that the images included some of the most serious categories, highlighting the severity of the offense.

In sentencing, the judge opted for a community-based resolution rather than imprisonment. Stanforth was handed a three-year community order, which includes supervision to monitor his conduct moving forward. Additionally, he is required to participate in a sex offender awareness program and must register permanently as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing oversight of his activities.
