GLYNN ROBERTSON FROM BIRKENHEAD SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR ABUSING TWO YOUNG GIRLS IN LIVERPOOL

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Birkenhead and the wider Liverpool area, Glynn Robertson, aged 38, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being convicted of multiple heinous sexual offences involving two very young girls. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of Robertson’s crimes, which involved the molestation and rape of vulnerable children, actions that have left lasting scars on his victims.

During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, the court heard how Robertson subjected his victims, described as 'extremely young and vulnerable,' to sexual abuse for his own perverted gratification. Despite the gravity of his actions, Robertson maintained his innocence and chose to force the children to testify in court, reliving their traumatic experiences. The court was told that Robertson was found guilty of nine separate sexual offences, including the rape of a girl under the age of 13, two counts of sexual assault, and six additional charges related to sexual activity with a minor.

Judge David Aubrey, QC, delivered a stern condemnation of Robertson’s actions, emphasizing the profound impact on the victims. He stated, “The victims in this case were extremely young. They were vulnerable. No right-thinking member of society could have been anything but moved if they observed both girls giving evidence. They were – and I emphasise were – sweet, young, vulnerable, innocent children. You have taken away their innocence, and as far as one is concerned, you have taken away her virginity.”

The court also heard poignant details about the victims’ experiences during their interviews. The second victim kept a diary, which was later recovered by police, revealing her inner feelings and worries. The diary was headed ‘worries and feelings’ and was marked with a sad face. The judge highlighted the emotional toll on the children, noting that both required assistance from a registered intermediary due to their tender age and extreme vulnerability. During their interviews, both girls sought comfort from their dolls or teddy bears, underscoring their innocence and the trauma they endured.

Furthermore, the court was shown evidence of the second victim’s diary, which contained entries expressing her fears and sadness. The judge pointed out that the girl had asked police, “Do I have to say it?” indicating her reluctance and fear of recounting her ordeal. Robertson’s refusal to admit his guilt forced the victims to relive their nightmares, a fact that the judge described as a reflection of Robertson’s lack of decency and courage. While acknowledging that Robertson’s denial did not diminish the seriousness of his crimes, Judge Aubrey made it clear that his refusal to accept responsibility offered no mitigation for his actions.

In conclusion, the court’s verdict and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims. Robertson’s crimes, committed in Birkenhead and involving young girls from the Liverpool area, have left a lasting scar on the community, and his imprisonment aims to prevent further harm and uphold the principles of justice and protection for vulnerable children.
