GLYN THOMPSON FROM BURNLEY SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LANCASHIRE
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Burnley, Lancashire, Glyn Thompson, a 32-year-old sports coach, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of multiple child sex offences. The incident involved a young girl aged between 13 and 15, with the offences spanning from January 2012 to April of an unspecified year.
Thompson, who was employed as a coach at Stoneyholme Community Primary School in Burnley, was arrested on July 4th following an investigation by Lancashire Police.
He subsequently admitted to nine charges related to his inappropriate conduct towards the minor.
These charges included four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15, as well as one count of inciting or causing a child to participate in sexual acts, in violation of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
During the court proceedings held at Preston Crown Court, Thompson pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against him.
The judge, after considering the evidence and the gravity of the offences, sentenced him to eight years in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, Thompson was subjected to a sexual offences prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Det Con Liz Owens, a representative of Lancashire Police, expressed her sentiments following the sentencing.
She stated, “I am pleased with today’s sentence handed down to Thompson given the horrendous ordeal he put his young victim through.
He took advantage of a young girl and groomed her over a long period of time.
We will continue to work with other agencies to support her and hope that today’s sentence will bring her some closure.” Authorities emphasized their commitment to protecting children and bringing offenders to justice, highlighting the importance of community awareness and vigilance in preventing such crimes.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of grooming and sexual exploitation, especially within local communities like Burnley, where residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
