GLYN NOLAN SENTENCED IN STOURPORT FOR DECADES-OLD RAPE AND INDECENT ASSAULTS

In a significant case that has shocked the community of Stourport, a local pensioner named Glyn Nolan has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after admitting to heinous crimes committed over twenty-five years ago. Nolan, aged 67 and residing on Olive Grove in Stourport, was found guilty in Worcester Crown Court of multiple sexual offenses, including two counts of indecent assault and five counts of rape, all occurring between the years 1981 and 1991.

These disturbing revelations only came to light in 2014, when the victim, now in her forties, bravely came forward to police to disclose the abuse she suffered as a young girl. Prosecutor Michael Aspinall detailed to the court that the victim had confided in her family and authorities about Nolan’s actions, revealing that he had told her the abuse was a secret that she must keep from everyone else. This betrayal of trust had a profound and lasting impact on her mental health, with Aspinall noting that she had struggled with mental health issues and had attempted to suppress the traumatic memories over the years.

During the court proceedings, Nolan chose to plead guilty at the earliest opportunity, a decision that spared the victim the ordeal of giving evidence in court. His defense attorney, Mark Sheward, emphasized that Nolan’s guilty plea was an act of remorse and a way to avoid further trauma for the victim.

Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins, QC, addressed the court with grave seriousness, stating that the crimes committed by Nolan were extremely serious and had devastating consequences for the young girl involved. The judge underscored that Nolan’s actions had effectively ruined her life, highlighting the profound and lasting damage caused by such offenses.

As part of his sentencing, Nolan was handed a total of ten years in prison, with the possibility of parole only if approved by the parole board. Additionally, he was subjected to an extended license period following his release, ensuring ongoing supervision. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely, and Nolan is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s need for ongoing protection.
