JACQUE LANE FROM STOURPORT-ON-SEVERN SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULTS ON EX-PARTNER AND HER SON
Jacque Lane, a 24-year-old man residing at Shorthill Caravan Park in Crossway Green, Stourport-on-Severn, was found guilty of a series of violent and disturbing assaults against his former partner and her young son. The incidents, which took place in and around the streets of Stourport-on-Severn, were characterized by extreme brutality and a pattern of threatening behavior that left the victims deeply traumatized.According to court proceedings at Gloucester Crown Court, Lane’s violent campaign began after the end of his brief relationship with the woman. The court heard that Lane, who initially met the woman while working on building projects at her residence, refused to accept the breakup and became increasingly aggressive. His violence culminated in a brutal attack on her in a public street, where he punched her to the ground, causing her head to hit the pavement. During this assault, Lane also bit her face and ear, inflicting significant injuries. His threats extended beyond physical violence, as he verbally abused her and her children, instilling fear and anxiety in the family.
Further disturbing details emerged during the trial, revealing that Lane attempted to maintain contact with the woman from prison, where he was held on remand following his arrest. Despite being incarcerated, he sent her five unsolicited letters, which heightened her fears of ongoing harassment. The court was also informed that Lane’s violent tendencies persisted even after his initial arrest. He was tracked down by police using a helicopter after fleeing the scene of his attack. Just two days later, Lane returned to the woman’s address in Stourport-on-Severn, where he assaulted her again and attacked her son. During this second assault, he tried to prevent her from activating a panic alarm by grabbing her son by the leg and throat, further demonstrating his dangerous and unpredictable behavior.
The court heard that the victims were left deeply frightened and distressed by Lane’s actions, especially considering the attack on the child, which caused lasting trauma. Despite Lane’s claims of remorse and his assertions that he intended to stay away from the victims, the court did not accept his apologies as sufficient mitigation. Instead, it sentenced him to a prison term of 36 months and imposed a restraining order lasting ten years to protect the victims from further contact. As Lane was taken into custody, he shouted “I love you,” a gesture that the court described as indicative of his complex and troubling state of mind. The judge emphasized the severity of Lane’s violent offenses, particularly his assault on a child, which had profound and lasting effects on the victims’ lives.
