GLYN FORRESTER FROM BARNSEY ESCAPES PRISON DESPITE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY FINDINGS

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Barnsley, Glyn Forrester, a 33-year-old man from West Street, Hoyland, narrowly avoided a custodial sentence after being found in possession of disturbing images and material involving children.

The incident, which came to light in February 2021, involved the discovery of highly inappropriate photographs of local schoolchildren, along with a hard drive filled with child pornography, raising serious concerns about the safety of children in the area.

During proceedings at Sheffield Crown Court, it was revealed that Forrester’s internet browsing history contained search terms described as “disturbing” by the judge, and some images downloaded from the internet were classified as the most extreme category of child abuse material.

These findings painted a troubling picture of his online activity, which authorities described as a significant threat to the safety and well-being of children.

Despite the gravity of the evidence, the court heard that Forrester’s actions did not result in a prison sentence.

The judge, Sarah Wright, expressed her belief that he “richly deserved to go to prison,” but ultimately, her decision was influenced by the efforts of his legal team and the circumstances of his case.

Instead of incarceration, Forrester was handed a three-year community order, which includes strict conditions aimed at addressing his offending behavior.

As part of his sentence, Forrester will be subject to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order, which is designed to restrict his access to certain online content and prevent further harm.

The court also considered the fact that Forrester was supported by a letter from his wife, which was presented as part of his mitigation.

However, the judge emphasized the serious nature of his offending, especially given that he was found with images of young girls from the Barnsley area on his computer in September 2018.

Judge Wright highlighted the disturbing implications of the case, stating, “It is heartbreaking for anyone to see or hear about this kind of material.

You emerge as a threat to children, a person with a perverted sexual interest in children poses a serious risk.” She further explained that individuals like Forrester not only pose a danger themselves but also contribute to the wider problem by promoting and encouraging the creation of such images and content.

The fact that he is a father to a young daughter added an extra layer of concern, as it underscores the tragic reality that children like her are often victims of abuse to produce such material.

While the judge acknowledged that Forrester deserved imprisonment, she believed that he would benefit more from targeted intervention.

Consequently, she ordered him to undertake 40 sessions of a sex offenders treatment programme, along with 35 days of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid work.

These measures are intended to help him confront and address his offending behavior, with the ultimate goal of reducing the risk he poses to the community in Barnsley and beyond.
