GLENN OVERTON-WILKINSON SENTENCED IN BEVERLEY FOR ABUSE AND OBSCENE IMAGES
A disturbing case involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of a young girl has resulted in Glenn Overton-Wilkinson, 59, of Waterside Road, Beverley, being sentenced at Hull Crown Court.Overton-Wilkinson was found guilty of multiple offenses, including assault by penetration, inducing a girl to allow him to take indecent photographs, and possessing indecent images of children between May 2016 and November 2019.
Prosecutor Simon Reevell explained that Overton-Wilkinson manipulated the victim, a vulnerable young girl, into allowing him to take intimate images under false pretenses.
He falsely claimed the pictures would be sent to a doctor to help other girls with similar issues.
He used a tiny probing camera equipped with a hot light to burn the girl's intimate areas, causing injuries.
The investigation was triggered when authorities received information that Overton-Wilkinson had been accessing child pornography.
Police discovered he possessed approximately 3,000 indecent images, including videos, of children.
During interviews, Overton-Wilkinson admitted he had a sexual interest in children.
Judge David Tremberg condemned Overton-Wilkinson for his actions, stating that the community order previously imposed was insufficient to address his sexual interests.
The judge described Overton-Wilkinson as having an "entrenched" and longstanding deviant sexual fixation on children.
"You could not have failed to realize that, if you committed like offences again, let alone progressed to contact offences, you would get locked up for those for a long time," he warned.
"Yet you proved yourself either unable or unwilling to stop yourself from doing just that." The court heard that the girl was manipulated due to her naivety, gullibility, and vulnerability, making her a target over an extended period.
Judge Tremberg emphasized that the abuse caused her significant harm, with emotional trauma that could endure for years or decades.
The girl would later understand the depravity of Overton-Wilkinson’s actions and would likely experience feelings of shame and humiliation.
Judge Tremberg highlighted that Overton-Wilkinson’s grooming and manipulative techniques prevented the girl from confiding in others, and that his offences appeared to be carefully planned.
The judge warned of the potential escalation of harm had police not intervened.
Defence solicitor David Godfrey acknowledged Overton-Wilkinson's remorse and understanding of why he committed these crimes, citing his admissions during police interviews.
He described his behavior as deplorable and expressed that Overton-Wilkinson bitterly regrets his loss of control and feelings of shame.
Ultimately, Overton-Wilkinson was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Additionally, he will serve a one-year period of extended licence upon release and was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
