GLENN FORBES ABERDEENSHIRE SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 28 MONTHS FOR HISTORIC ABUSE CASES
In May 2019, a distressing case unfolded at Aberdeen Sheriff Court involving Glenn Forbes, a man from Aberdeenshire, who was convicted of multiple historic sexual offences against young boys.The court heard how Forbes, aged 56 at the time of sentencing, had engaged in a series of disturbing acts spanning over a decade, targeting vulnerable children in the north-east region of Scotland.
One of the victims, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, recounted the profound impact the abuse had on his life.
Now in his 30s, he described feeling physically ill when recalling the traumatic experiences but expressed relief that he can now find moments of happiness again.
He detailed how Forbes, a man who used to appear to be friendly and generous, would often seek out young boys, particularly those involved in junior football teams.
The offender would buy them football boots and other gifts, creating a false sense of trust and affection that he exploited for his own depraved purposes.
The court was informed that Forbes was guilty of multiple charges, including lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices directed at a boy aged between 11 and 13 during various occasions in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Additionally, he was convicted of indecently assaulting the same boy when he was 14.
The offences were committed in the north-east of Scotland, with the abuse occurring over several years, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior.
Furthermore, Forbes faced charges related to another teenage boy, whom he induced to consume alcohol before indecently assaulting him while he was unconscious.
These allegations further underscored the calculated and manipulative nature of Forbes’s actions.
The victim, who cannot be named, described Forbes as “cold and calculated,” emphasizing how he used his position of trust to prey on young boys.
During the court proceedings, the victim expressed how the experience had left a lasting scar, describing feelings of dirtiness and the profound effect it had on his mental health.
He shared that the abuse had caused significant turmoil within his family, but that they were gradually beginning to heal and come together again.
The victim also spoke about his current life, mentioning that he has a partner and children, and that he is now motivated to rebuild his life, including redecorating his home and seeking employment.
He urged others who have suffered similar abuse to come forward and report their experiences to the police, emphasizing the importance of justice and support for victims.
The court, acknowledging the severity of the offences, sentenced Forbes to 28 months in prison.
Sheriff Graeme Napier also ordered Forbes to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of 10 years, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring to protect the community from potential reoffending.
