GLEN WILSON AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL BLACKMAIL IN PERTHSHIRE AND BEYOND

A 19-year-old man named Glen Wilson from Longforgan in Perthshire has been sentenced to three and a half years in detention after orchestrating a disturbing campaign of blackmail and exploitation involving young girls. The court proceedings revealed that Wilson targeted minors, persuading them to send him sexually explicit images and videos. He then exploited these images by threatening to share them with others, including fellow paedophiles, causing considerable distress among his victims.

The crimes committed by Wilson spanned from September 2015 to June of the following year, during which he managed to manipulate girls as young as 12 years old. The young victims were from various places, including London, Wales, Sheffield, Derby, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, highlighting the broad geographical range of his harmful activities. Perth Sheriff Court was informed that Wilson’s method involved engaging the girls via social media platforms, where he engaged them in conversation, gradually persuading them to send photographs at different stages of nudity. After receiving these images, Wilson would send back a screenshot containing the contacts of the girls, threatening to send their images to their family and friends if they did not comply with his demands.

One particularly distressing aspect of the case was that one victim was left feeling suicidal as a result of the harassment and threats she received from Wilson. During the court hearing, prosecutors detailed that Wilson’s threats left the girls terrified of potential exposure, fearing the humiliation and shame that would come with having their images circulated among their social circles. Wilson reportedly told one victim, “You have two options. You either do what I ask or I send,” implying that failure to cooperate would result in the dissemination of her images. To another girl, he stated, “I don't want to ruin your life, but I will if you make me,” leaving her with no safe choice.

Wilson's defense attorney, George Donnelly, described his client as coming from a “happy, settled background,” and emphasized that Wilson’s remorse was “absolute and unconditional.” He also acknowledged that Wilson’s university career was now over due to these actions. Judge Gillian Wade, presiding over the case, condemned Wilson’s conduct as “despicable,” highlighting the severity of his offenses and their impact on the victims.

The court heard that Wilson was also to be placed on the sex offenders register for life, with an additional 18-month period of supervised release. Sheriff Wade expressed her regret that someone with Wilson’s potential would serve such a lengthy time in jail, noting that the victims had been significantly distressed, with one victim explicitly indicating she was feeling suicidal due to his threats. Despite this, Wilson continued to coerce and threaten the girls into sending him further images, even after knowing of their emotional distress.
