GINA ROBINS FROM TORQUAY SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL KITTEN MURDER IN VILE REVENGE ACT

Gina Marie Robins, born on September 16, 1980, and residing at 29 Collaton Road in Torquay, has been convicted of a heinous act of animal cruelty that shocked the local community and drew widespread condemnation. The incident, which took place in 2011, involved Robins deliberately microwaving a neighbor’s innocent kitten to death as an act of revenge.

According to reports, the tragic event unfolded when Robins, who lived nearby, decided to target her neighbor, Sarah Knutton. The young kitten, only ten weeks old at the time, was subjected to a horrifying fate when Robins shut it inside a microwave oven and turned it on. The sound of the microwave’s explosion-like pop, followed by a horrendous screeching noise, alerted Miss Knutton, who immediately rushed into her kitchen. There, she was devastated to find her beloved pet lifeless inside the microwave, a scene that left her in a state of shock and disbelief.

Miss Knutton recounted her shock, stating, “I was in a state of shock. Gina stared at me. She didn’t say anything. She just stared at me.” The emotional trauma was compounded the following day when Robins sent her a threatening text message that read: “Remember the saying ‘what goes around comes around?’ It has started already to bite you in the ****. The cat? Karma.”

During the trial, Robins denied the charge of causing unnecessary suffering to the kitten. She claimed that the kitten had jumped onto a worktop, and that other cats had started fighting, which allegedly led to the kitten being shut inside the microwave, causing it to activate. However, the prosecution, led by Iain O’Donnell representing the RSPCA, dismissed her account as ‘implausible,’ emphasizing that it was highly unlikely the kitten had crawled into the microwave on its own or that another cat had accidentally shut the door, thereby activating the appliance.

Veterinary expert Dr. Robert Cameron provided further insight, stating that the kitten would have experienced suffering prior to death. He observed that the kitten’s claws and ears, areas with no fur, were reddened, and its claws were clenched in fear, indicating distress. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the kitten had died from microwave radiation exposure, with no other potential causes of death identified.

Robins was ultimately found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the kitten. The court sentenced her to 168 days in prison and imposed a ban on her keeping animals for ten years, a restriction that expired in December 2021. The magistrates highlighted her complete lack of remorse during sentencing, underscoring the severity of her actions and the cruelty inflicted upon the defenseless animal.
