GILBERT ANTONY CAUGHT IN NEWPORT WITH NEARLY 700 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Newport community, Gilbert Antony, a 52-year-old former teacher residing on Caerphilly Road, was found in possession of nearly 700 images depicting child abuse.The incident, which came to light in July 2022, revealed a troubling pattern of criminal behavior involving the distribution and possession of indecent images of children.
Antony was apprehended after authorities uncovered his involvement in the possession and distribution of such illicit material.
The images were categorized as both B and C indecent images, with additional possession of a prohibited image of a child.
The offences spanned a period from May 25, 2020, to June 26, 2022, according to court records presented at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
During the court proceedings, Antony admitted to multiple charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images.
His guilty plea was accepted, and he was subsequently sentenced to six months in prison, though this sentence was suspended for two years.
This means that Antony will not serve time unless he commits further offences within that period.
In addition to the suspended prison sentence, the court imposed several other penalties.
Antony was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work, participate in a 30-day rehabilitation activity program, and pay a total of £241 in court costs and surcharge.
Furthermore, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for a decade and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which will also last for ten years.
These measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent any future harm.
