GERGO BRUMMEL ARRESTED IN WOOLWICH AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GREEN PARK, LONDON
A woman who became the victim of a sexual assault in Green Park was rescued by alert police officers after they heard her screams in the early hours of April 20 last year. The incident took place in the heart of Central London, where the victim was attacked by Gergo Brummel, a 33-year-old man from Woolwich.According to reports, officers patrolling the Piccadilly area responded swiftly after hearing distress calls from within Green Park. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the woman struggling with Brummel, who was attempting to overpower her. The woman immediately claimed that she had been grabbed from behind and subjected to a sexual assault. She managed to fight off Brummel during the struggle, which prompted the officers to intervene.
During their search of the surrounding area, the police found a condom discarded nearby. The condom was collected and sent for forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of Brummel’s DNA. This evidence played a crucial role in establishing his involvement in the assault.
Gergo Brummel, whose address is listed as Crescent Road, Woolwich, was subsequently charged and found guilty of sexual assault. His conviction was handed down at Inner London Crown Court on March 5, where he received an 18-month prison sentence. In addition to this, Brummel was sentenced to a further 20 weeks behind bars for violating a restraining order related to a separate incident. The judge ordered that these sentences be served consecutively, effectively increasing his time in custody.
Detective Constable Mick Heaney of Westminster Police commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of the officers’ quick response. “If it was not for the quick actions of the officers that night, I have no doubt that Brummel’s attack would have escalated,” he said. He also expressed gratitude towards the victim for her cooperation during the investigation. “This has resulted in a dangerous man being put behind bars,” he added.
Following his release from prison, Brummel will be required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case highlights the critical role of vigilant policing and prompt intervention in preventing further harm in such serious incidents.
