Gerald Game, aged 50 and originally from Chepstow, has been identified as the man behind the festive costume and musical performances that have become a familiar sight outside Iceland on Holton Road in Barry.

Back in 1993, Gerald Game was convicted and sentenced to 21 months in prison for grooming a young girl aged 13 and subjecting her to abuse over a period of seven years. Despite serving his sentence, recent reports and online posts have reignited concerns about his presence in public spaces, especially given his distinctive costume and the potential influence on children.

A national newspaper that investigated and exposed Game’s criminal history noted that he was known to work in Cheltenham, but many residents of Barry have recognized him as the familiar elf who sits with his musical instruments and dressed in elaborate costume, entertaining passersby. His presence in Barry has raised alarm among local parents and guardians, especially after several individuals shared their encounters and concerns on social media.

One individual, known by the username Jumpinjamie, expressed his outrage on the newspaper’s website, stating, “This monster has been seen in Barry, South Wales on a number of occasions, and my five-year-old son has spoken to him and shaken his hand while putting pennies into his busking pot. I am sickened at this and how we can all be fooled. I dread to think what I’d say to this monster if I see him again.”

Another local, Sammy1984, added, “This is the man who plays in my town centre in Barry. I think this man should not be allowed to perform on our streets as he does encourage children to play along with him by handing them instruments to play.”

Miss B09 shared her own unsettling experience, saying, “I saw this man last week in Barry town centre in Wales. He was playing his recorder, and had tambourines on the floor, and a little boy went up and sat by him. I was with my three-and-a-half-year-old son at the time, and it makes me sick to think of this man being able to perform in the street, luring children to him with his instruments that they can play with. He is a paedophile!”

The reactions from residents have been overwhelmingly negative, with many expressing their horror and concern over the potential danger posed by someone with such a criminal background freely performing in public.

Kay Coomber, a mother of three from Holton Road, voiced her worries, stating, “I have seen him here in the town, and it is worrying. Surely there should be rules about him busking.”
