GEORGINA WOODBURN FROM ISLE OF WIGHT CONVICTED OF HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND BANNED FROM WORKING WITH CHILDREN

In August 2019, a woman from the Isle of Wight faced serious criminal charges related to historic child sex offences and was subsequently convicted in a court of law. Georgina Woodburn, aged 42 and residing on Denness Road, was found guilty of multiple counts involving inappropriate and illegal conduct towards a young boy. The case was heard at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, where the judge delivered the verdict on August 13.

The charges against Woodburn included five separate counts of indecency with a boy under the age of 14. These offences spanned a period from March 1988 to March 1994, a time when she was between 11 and 17 years old. The nature of the offences was particularly grave, with three counts classified as gross indecency and two counts as indecent assault. The distinction between these charges underscores the severity of her actions and the impact on the victim.

Following her conviction, Woodburn was sentenced to a community order that will last for 12 months. This community order is to be served concurrently across all the offences, meaning she will serve the same period of supervision for each charge simultaneously. Additionally, as part of her sentencing, she has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of five years. This registration requirement is a standard measure aimed at monitoring individuals convicted of sexual offences.

Furthermore, Woodburn has been explicitly barred from engaging in any employment or activities that involve working with children. This restriction is intended to protect potential victims and prevent any possibility of reoffending in environments where children are present. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of her crimes and the ongoing concern for safeguarding children in the community.
