GEORGE WILLIAMS FROM BRIDGEND AND FOLKESTONE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR HISTORIC RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS

In a case that has spanned decades and involved multiple victims, pensioner George Williams, originally from Bridgend and later associated with Folkestone, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years. The conviction stems from a series of serious sexual offenses committed between 1975 and 1984 in the Folkestone area, involving four victims who endured unimaginable trauma.

Williams was found guilty of two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. The crimes included the sexual assault of a 17-year-old male in 1983, the assault of a child under the age of 13 in 1978, and the rape of children under 13 in both 1976 and 1975. These offenses, spanning nearly a decade, highlight a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that has left lasting scars on those affected.

The court's decision to impose a 16-year sentence reflects the gravity of Williams's actions. Detective Constable Katie Bewshear commented on the case, stating, “George William-Sainsbury subjected his victims to some truly horrendous assaults which have had a serious impact on their lives. I’m pleased the court recognised the seriousness of his offences and I hope his sentencing goes some way to providing his victims with closure.”

She also expressed gratitude to the victims for their bravery in coming forward after many years, acknowledging the courage it took to provide evidence that ultimately led to Williams’s conviction. The case underscores the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the offenses occurred, and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring such offenders to justice.
