GEORGE WESTLAKE SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE IN GUILDFORD
In a case that has shocked the community of Guildford, Surrey, George Westlake, aged 68, has been handed down a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young children.The incident, which took place over a period spanning from September 2003 to April 2004, saw Westlake luring two innocent children, aged five and seven, into his residence on Stoke Road, where he subjected them to a series of disturbing acts.
Westlake's conviction was secured last month, with the court hearing detailed accounts of how he groomed his young victims, preparing them for the abuse he inflicted.
The trial, held at Guildford Crown Court, revealed that Westlake had a troubling history, including two prior convictions from the 1960s for similar offenses involving children.
This history underscored the severity of his current crimes and the potential danger he posed.
On Wednesday, Judge John Crocker sentenced Westlake to a total of ten years in prison.
In his remarks, the judge expressed his belief that Westlake had been actively grooming the children, a process that, fortunately, was halted before it could escalate further.
Judge Crocker emphasized the lasting impact such trauma could have on the victims, stating, “It could be that those children will remember what you did for the rest of their lives.” During the trial, disturbing details emerged about the nature of Westlake’s abuse.
The court heard that he forced the children to perform lewd acts on each other and also molested them directly.
Evidence presented included reports from the victims, who recounted seeing adult pornography at Westlake’s home, further illustrating the disturbing environment he created.
Following his arrest in 2004, police conducted a search of Westlake’s residence, which led to the recovery of a video camera.
However, no tapes depicting abuse were found, which was a point of relief for the court.
Despite this, Westlake was cleared of an additional seven charges related to the case.
In terms of sentencing, Westlake received four-year terms for each of the indecent assault charges, with these sentences running concurrently.
Additionally, he was sentenced to two consecutive five-year terms for the indecency charges.
The court also mandated that Westlake be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
It is noteworthy that Westlake’s criminal history dates back to the 1960s, when he received an 18-month sentence and a three-and-a-half-year sentence for similar offenses involving children.
His repeated offenses highlight the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
