ROCHFORD MAN GEORGE STALLIBRASS ESCAPES JAIL AFTER DISCOVERY OF NEARLY 600 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Rochford, 20-year-old George Stallibrass was found to possess an alarming collection of nearly 600 indecent images of children, some of which depicted victims as young as four years old. Despite the severity of the evidence against him, Stallibrass managed to avoid imprisonment during a hearing held at Basildon Crown Court.Stallibrass, a resident of Oxford Road in Rochford, had previously admitted to three counts of making indecent images of a child. The court was informed that police executed a search warrant at his home on June 25 of the previous year, during which they confiscated multiple digital devices, including a laptop, an iPad, and an iPhone. These devices became crucial evidence in the case.
Prosecutor Gavin Pottinger detailed the findings, stating, “A total of 586 indecent images were discovered, including some videos. Among the children depicted in these images, some were as young as four and six years old.” He further explained that the images had been transmitted via an online Dropbox account, and that the laptop appeared to be primarily used for this purpose. The court was also told that Stallibrass had been viewing such material over many years, with a significant age gap between him and some of the children shown in the images.
Despite the gravity of the charges, the court sentenced Stallibrass to three community orders, which were to run concurrently. These orders include a requirement for him to complete 50 days of rehabilitation activity, perform 100 hours of unpaid work, and participate in the Horizon programme, a scheme designed to prevent reoffending among individuals with sexual convictions. The decision to avoid a custodial sentence has sparked debate, but the court emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and monitoring in this case.
