George McKenzie

Ilkley Sexual Abuser

July 2011 Alcoholic sex pest locked up after targeting lone females A drunken sex pest who molested lone young girls and women at bus stops and railway stations has been locked up for 16 months. George McKenzie struck again twice after being released from a four-year prison sentence for indecently assaulting a schoolgirl and three women, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday. Judge John Potter told 42-year-old McKenzie his behaviour was “abusive and disgraceful.” “There is a wish by you to target vulnerable women in bus stations and railway stations for the purpose of molesting them sexually,” the judge added. McKenzie, of Leeds Road, Ilkley, was sentenced for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at Ilkley Railway Station on December 12 last year and a nurse in her 50s at Otley Bus Station on March 21. The registered alcoholic was on police bail the second time he struck, the court heard. In June 1999, McKenzie was imprisoned for four years at Leeds Crown Court for indecently assaulting a schoolgirl under 16 and three women. He grabbed the child by the arm and groped her. She kicked him and he ran off. McKenzie assaulted the women and made inappropriate sexual suggestions. He was a registered sex offender when he was convicted by Bingley magistrates in May this year of sexually assaulting the 16-year-old girl at Ilkley Railway Station. Prosecutor Ben Crosland said McKenzie told her: “You’ve got a beautiful smile” and put his hand on her knee. She pushed him away but he tried to hug her and edged up close to her on a bench. The frightened girl mouthed “help me” to people waiting for a train and a woman pretended to know her to allow her to escape. The teenager was very distressed and burst into tears. Mr Crosland said a train conductor took McKenzie’s photograph on his mobile phone. The police were alerted and he was arrested and bailed. On March 21, McKenzie shuffled up close to a nurse in her 50s at Otley Bus Station. He touched her inappropriately twice and asked if she was married and where she was going. He then groped her. When the women told McKenzie he needed help, he asked her to have sex with him. The court heard the incident was caught on CCTV and the nurse picked McKenzie out at an identification procedure. McKenzie was now sober and realistic about the fate that awaited him, the court heard. Alcohol acted as a very severe disinhibiter and he was very sorry and remorseful. Judge Potter ordered McKenzie to sign on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
