GEORGE LITT FROM WHITEHAVEN CONVICTED OVER ANIMAL ABUSE INCIDENT IN ST BEES

In a case that has shocked the local community of Whitehaven and the surrounding area, George W Litt, born around 1954 and residing at 1A Birley Court, Whitehaven CA28 7NF, was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a dog. The incident took place in a caravan located in St Bees, a seaside village known for its scenic beauty and tourist appeal.

During the court proceedings, Litt maintained a stance of innocence regarding all three charges he faced. These charges included having sexual relations with an animal, attempting to do so, and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. Ultimately, the court convicted him solely on the charge of attempted sexual activity, acquitting him of the other allegations.

The trial revealed that Litt admitted to having the intention to engage in sexual acts with a Boston terrier while in the caravan. He explained that he was intoxicated and experiencing sexual frustration at the time. However, he claimed that he changed his mind before any act could be carried out. According to Litt, the moment he decided against proceeding was when his partner, who owned the dog, along with a friend, returned to the caravan.

The court heard that on the afternoon of August 18, 2015, Litt had been drinking in the caravan with his partner. Later that evening, around 7:30 pm, a friend joined them. During this time, the partner and the friend left the caravan briefly to fetch some chairs from elsewhere on the site. It was during this brief absence that the incident unfolded, leading to a shocking discovery upon their return.

The partner was so distressed by what they saw that they ran from the caravan screaming, while the friend was overwhelmed and vomited. The incident prompted immediate legal action, culminating in Litt’s conviction.

In sentencing, Litt received a 100-day prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete a 35-day rehabilitation course, pay costs and charges amounting to £580, and was banned from owning or having unsupervised contact with any animals for a period of 12 months. Additionally, he is required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register, reflecting the seriousness of the offense and the community’s concern for animal welfare and public safety.
