In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Helston and the surrounding areas, George Dyer, a 61-year-old former town councillor and aeronautical engineer, has been found guilty of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and rape of women and young girls. The conviction was handed down after a detailed trial at Truro Crown Court, where the jury deliberated for just two hours before reaching their verdicts.

George Dyer, who resided on Church Hill in Helston, a town where he previously served as a local councillor, was convicted on three counts of rape, six charges of sexual assault against a child under the age of 13, three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and inciting or causing children to participate in sexual acts. The offences predominantly took place within the Helston and Penzance regions, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse across these communities.

During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Joss Ticehurst, emphasized Dyer’s troubling fascination with young children. The jury was presented with evidence that painted a picture of manipulation, violence, and predatory behavior. The victims, two women and three young girls, provided harrowing testimonies about the abuse they endured at the hands of Dyer.

One of the female victims recounted a particularly traumatic experience where Dyer used violence against her, pressing his body weight onto her and preventing her from resisting. She described the terror she felt during the assault, which was compounded by Dyer’s disturbing commands for her to smile and give him a kiss while she was crying. She also revealed that Dyer threatened to kill her, describing him as an “angry and violent” individual, and referred to him as a “monster.”

Meanwhile, the child victims detailed how Dyer employed grooming tactics to manipulate them into compliance. They described instances where he touched their private areas after grooming them, showed one of the girls pornography, and coerced her into dressing in lingerie. Two of the children were forced to perform acts of a fetishistic nature that are too grotesque to describe in detail. These acts reveal a calculated pattern of exploitation and abuse.

Despite his criminal activities, Dyer maintained a facade of respectability, living a double life with well-paid employment and involvement in local politics. His actions have left a lasting scar on the victims and the community, prompting calls for justice and increased awareness of such predatory behaviors. Dyer was remanded into custody immediately following the verdict and is scheduled to be sentenced later this week, with authorities promising a thorough sentencing process to reflect the severity of his crimes.
