GEORGE BUSHELL FROM WARRINGTON SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In August 2023, a disturbing case unfolded involving George Bushell, a convicted child sex offender from Warrington, who has been re-incarcerated after authorities uncovered evidence of his continued involvement in viewing and possessing indecent images of children.Bushell, who previously served a 15-year prison sentence for seven sex offences—including three counts of rape—was released on licence in late 2019.
Despite his release, law enforcement authorities remained vigilant, and their suspicions were confirmed in December 2021 when police raided his residence in Warrington following intelligence that suggested he was using peer-to-peer file sharing networks to download illegal images.
During the raid, officers seized a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop and a USB stick, which were subsequently sent for detailed forensic analysis.
Prosecutor Chris Hopkins revealed that during police interviews, Bushell claimed he might have inadvertently downloaded the indecent images, a statement that did little to mitigate the severity of the evidence found.
The forensic examination uncovered a total of 20 indecent images stored across the devices, categorized into all three levels of seriousness.
Among these were two videos classified as the most severe category, both located on the laptop, with an additional five videos on the USB stick.
One particularly disturbing video, which lasted approximately 20 minutes, depicted a child being raped, highlighting the grave nature of the material involved.
Further investigation into Bushell’s internet activity revealed that he had visited websites involving children aged nine and ten.
The devices also contained software such as Tor Browser, used to mask online activity and prevent detection, along with file deletion tools, indicating an attempt to conceal his activities.
At the time of his arrest, Bushell, aged 45 and formerly residing on Froghall Lane in Warrington, was recalled to prison with an expected release date set for 2027.
He was re-interviewed in January of the current year but chose to remain silent during questioning.
Bushell ultimately pleaded guilty to three counts of downloading indecent images of children and one count of possession of such images.
His sentencing was handed down by Judge Denis Watson, KC, who sentenced him to two years in prison.
The judge clarified that this sentence would commence immediately, as he lacked the authority to make it run consecutively to his previous rape sentence, which he is still serving.
Judge Watson emphasized that the case was “substantially aggravated” by Bushell’s efforts to conceal his illegal activities, including the use of file shredding software on his laptop.
The presence of Category A videos, including the lengthy 20-minute clip, further underscored the seriousness of the offences committed by Bushell, who now faces a renewed period of incarceration for his disturbing actions.
