OFFENDER SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK IN NOTTINGHAM
A man suffering injuries in an assault was described as "a physical mess" after he was targeted with a metal vacuum cleaner pipe, punched in the face, and struck multiple times on his head and chest. The attack took place at the former partner of George Boultby’s home, where Boultby attacked him with the pipe and struck him in the eye.
Furthermore, Boultby assaulted his former partner, causing fractures to her upper arm, Nottingham Crown Court heard on September 3.
Samuel Proctor, Boultby's housemate, also participated by punching the victim on the side of his face before they left the scene.
The incident was linked to previous hostility.
On February 1 of the previous year, the victim had attended Queen’s Medical Centre with numerous bruises, abrasions—including an imprint from a trainer—and significant facial swelling, along with an orbital wall fracture to his cheekbone.
In his victim statement, the man described himself as "a physical mess" and added that he now has a lazy right eye, which he had not before the early morning assault.
He expressed that "The attack has left me feeling mentally insecure and paranoid," and that "Most nights, when I try to sleep, the incident is there in the back of my mind." The victim’s ex-partner shared that she had begun to recover and felt safe in her home, but within three months, Boultby had "violated my home," leading her to no longer want to stay there.
Both Boultby and Proctor pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.
Boultby, 25, from Southwold Drive, Beechdale, was sentenced to 13 months for that assault, with additional sentences of eight months for breaching a restraining order and one month for common assault, all of which were admitted.
The sentences are to run consecutively, totaling 22 months, but are suspended for two years.
He must also undertake 150 hours of unpaid work and attend 20 days of rehabilitation.
Katrina Wilson, Boultby’s solicitor, highlighted that he is a hardworking young man still in a relationship with someone who provided a reference for him.
Samuel Proctor, aged 29 from Southwood Drive, received a 13-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a three-month curfew from 7 pm to 7 am, and 18 hours of unpaid work.
Defense lawyer David Watts explained that Proctor went to support Boultby at the property, noting that the offence was committed 18 months earlier with no subsequent offending.
