CRIEFF MAN GEORGE BEGG CAUGHT WITH INDECENT CHILD IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of Crieff, George Begg, a 48-year-old resident of Leadenflower Court, was found in possession of indecent images of children on his mobile phone. The case came to light in August 2013 when police officers, acting on suspicion that Begg might be involved in theft, approached him. At the time, Begg was reportedly intoxicated, but he willingly consented to a search of his belongings. During the search, officers recovered a mobile device and a pocket diary from him.Depute fiscal Carol White provided details of the evidence found. She stated, “On the phone, they discovered various images of children as young as four, depicted in different states of undress and some in erotic poses.” She further explained that the diary contained references to websites that appeared to be related to indecent images, with the first page listing several names associated with such content. The images were described as being at the lowest end of the scale of severity, but their possession was nonetheless a serious offense.
During police interviews conducted by officers from the Tayside Division, Begg admitted to accessing the internet and viewing the images. He reportedly said, “I’m sorry for going on to the internet. I was just curious. I’m not interested in kids. I went into it and I kept going and kept going.” His explanation was met with concern from authorities, given the nature of the material involved.
Following his admission, Begg was charged with possession of indecent photographs of children. He pleaded guilty to the offense on January 14 of that year. As the case proceeded, Begg was placed on the sex offenders register, and his sentencing was deferred until September 25 to allow for further proceedings. The community and authorities remain vigilant as they await the final judgment in this troubling case.
