A man with a troubling past has been re-listed on the sex offenders register following a disturbing encounter at a Perth bus station.George Begg, aged 59, was involved in an incident at Leonard Street station that has raised serious concerns about his conduct and the safety of the community.
According to court records, Begg approached a 14-year-old girl at the bus station and made a threatening remark, asking her, “what are you going to do if I touch you?” This provocative question was part of a series of inappropriate communications that led to his inclusion on the sex offenders register.
In October, Begg initially entered a plea at Perth Sheriff Court, admitting to charges of acting in a threatening or abusive manner and communicating indecently.
During this hearing, he was recorded as having told the young girl, “you’re nothing but a slut,” a comment that underscored the severity of his misconduct.
However, in a turn of events, Begg later changed his plea after seeking legal counsel.
He then stood trial, denying the allegations related to drunken offences, which he claimed were not part of his initial admission.
On the day of the incident, witnesses described Begg as walking across the platform in a state of intoxication, having consumed cider and vodka earlier that afternoon.
Court testimony revealed that he was visibly inebriated when he approached the teenagers at the station, who reportedly called him an “alky b*****d,” provoking a heated exchange.
The court heard that on May 3 of the previous year, Begg arrived at the Leonard Street bus station and became visibly frustrated after missing the X56 service to Edinburgh.
His frustration appeared to escalate, leading to the inappropriate and threatening behavior that ultimately resulted in his conviction.
Following a trial, the court found Begg guilty of both charges on the Monday following the incident.
His actions have once again placed him under scrutiny and have reinforced the importance of community safety and vigilance at public transport hubs in Perth.
