GEORGE HURT SENTENCED IN SHEFFIELD FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A man from Sheffield, Geoffrey Hurt, has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing sexual offences involving a 13-year-old girl.

The incident, which took place in Sheffield, has shocked the local community and prompted a serious legal response.

According to court proceedings, Hurt, aged 38 and residing at Batemoor Place, Batemoor, Sheffield, engaged in a troubling assault on the young girl, which included biting her in intimate areas.

The court heard that Hurt claimed the incident was merely a 'play fight,' a defense that was ultimately rejected by the jury.

The Sheffield Crown Court found Hurt guilty of three separate sex offences after a trial that revealed the disturbing nature of his actions.

Judge David Dixon, presiding over the case, sentenced Hurt on June 6, 2024, emphasizing the gravity of his behavior.

In his remarks, the judge stated, “A man who is interested in biting young girls in a sexual way, as the jury found you had, is clearly a worry.” He further added, “The jury accepted it wasn’t a play fight,” underscoring the court’s rejection of Hurt’s defense.

The court detailed how Hurt had bitten the girl on two different intimate areas during the incident, raising questions about his motives and psychological state.

Judge Dixon expressed difficulty in understanding what kind of 'kink' or 'fetish' Hurt might have been driven by, indicating the disturbing nature of the case.

The judge also highlighted that after the biting incident, Hurt sent messages that went far beyond innocent flirtation.

These messages included solicitations for photographs and sexual content, which the court deemed inappropriate and indicative of a sexual interest.

One particularly troubling message involved Hurt asking the girl if she would ever be willing to be with an older man.

Although Hurt claimed he did not mean himself, the court found that his words clearly implied a sexual interest in her.

The messages, according to Judge Dixon, effectively amounted to asking her to have sex with him, even if not explicitly stated.

Hurt’s attempts to shift blame onto others and claims that the allegations were fabricated were also noted by the court.

The court heard that Hurt denied visiting web links involving child sexual activity, but the evidence suggested otherwise.

The timing of his online activities, as presented in court, conflicted with his claims, leading to the conclusion that he was the one responsible for searching such material and harboring sexual interests in children.

The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, chose not to submit a personal statement.

Prosecutor Andrew Petterson confirmed this to the court.

Hurt was convicted of two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15, and one count of sexual communication with a child.

He was acquitted of allegations related to a second girl, which indicates that the jury found insufficient evidence to convict him on those charges.

It was also revealed that Hurt has a prior conviction for sexual assault from 12 years ago, a fact that the judge regarded as an aggravating factor in his sentencing.

His criminal history underscores a pattern of concerning behavior.

During the hearing, Hurt’s defense, represented by Camille Morland, acknowledged that he had crossed boundaries with the complainant.

Ms.

Morland described Hurt as someone with a complex background, including early military service, and noted his previous conviction for sexual assault on an adult female.

She argued that Hurt would benefit from rehabilitation rather than imprisonment, suggesting that he could be better managed within the community.

Hurt is currently in a relationship with a woman in Hampshire, with whom he plans to relocate after serving his sentence.

However, Judge Dixon made it clear that Hurt’s continued denial of his actions and his dishonesty during the trial indicated a low likelihood of rehabilitation.

Consequently, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Hurt was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from contacting girls under the age of 18.

He is also required to register as a sex offender.

Furthermore, restraining orders were issued to prevent him from contacting both of the alleged victims for a period of 10 years, ensuring their protection from any potential harassment or intimidation.

The case highlights the ongoing concerns about safeguarding children and the importance of rigorous legal action against offenders like Geoffrey Hurt, whose actions have caused significant distress and pose a serious threat to the safety of minors in Sheffield.
