GAVIN WYTCHERLEY FROM CREWE AND STOKE-ON-TRENT SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND INDECENT IMAGES

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent, Gavin Wytcherley, aged 34, has been sentenced to serve a minimum of six years in prison after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The court heard that Wytcherley, who resides on Nantwich Road in Crewe, engaged in grooming behaviors before subjecting his young victim to sexual assault.

Prosecutor Trevor Meegan detailed that Wytcherley's actions included the rape of a girl under the age of 13, as well as an attempted rape on another occasion. The case came to light when Wytcherley was arrested at a leisure centre in Stoke-on-Trent in March of the previous year. During the arrest, police observed suspicious behavior when he requested to retrieve his wallet from his car. When given permission, Wytcherley attempted to tamper with DVDs, but his efforts failed. Upon inspection, officers discovered footage depicting the abuse of his young victim.

Further investigation revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images. Police recovered and examined four computers from Wytcherley's residence, which was located in Crewe. The analysis uncovered a staggering total of 17,375 indecent images of children, highlighting the extent of his illegal activities. Wytcherley also had a prior conviction for abducting a child, which added to the severity of his current charges.

Wytcherley pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the rape of a child under 13, attempted rape of a child under 13, and 22 counts of taking or making indecent images of children. His guilty pleas were seen as a way to prevent his young victim from having to testify in court. During the proceedings, Joanne Wallbanks, representing the defendant, acknowledged that Wytcherley's psychological issues played a role in his behavior. She also noted that in 2005, he was not charged with a sexual offense but had taken a girl to Derbyshire without her parents' permission.

However, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones emphasized the dangerous nature of Wytcherley's conduct. He described Wytcherley as a high risk to children, especially girls, and sentenced him to a minimum of six years in prison. The judge also ordered that Wytcherley be placed on the sex offenders' register for life and disqualified him from working with children in any capacity.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Trevor-Jones condemned Wytcherley's actions, stating, "Your conduct in relation to that young girl, coupled with your extensive library of pornographic images of young children, is really quite shocking." He further described Wytcherley as manipulative and controlling, accusing him of grooming and corrupting his victim. The judge expressed concern over Wytcherley's depraved outlook on sexual matters, noting his belief that young children should be allowed to engage in sexual activities. He also pointed out that Wytcherley maintained that the girl was partly to blame and admitted to carrying out other sexual indignities on her, revealing a deeply disturbing pattern of behavior.
