Gavin Peacock

Plymouth Sexual Abuser

June 2009 Man had images of children on mobile phones A MUTLEY man found with dozens of indecent pictures of children on two mobile phones has been sentenced. Gavin Peacock had pleaded guilty to 19 counts of making an indecent image of a child, and two counts of possessing indecent photographs of children. The 35-year-old, of Alexandra Road, was given a 26-week prison sentence suspended for two years and a two-year supervision requirement. He was also ordered by Plymouth Crown Court to attend a sexual offending behaviour programme. The pictures were discovered by a friend of Peacock’s in July last year while using one of his mobile phones to download music, the court heard. The man handed the phone over to police who then arrested Peacock and seized a second phone at his flat. Officers found still and moving images, all of boys, ranging in seriousness from Category One to Category Five, the most explicit classification. Among them were 128 indecent pictures of Category 4 and two Category 5 images. Emma Birt, in Peacock’s defence, described him as a naive man with no previous convictions who is “embarrassed, distressed and thoroughly ashamed” at his actions. She said: “He accepted these photographs being sent to his mobile telephone and he acquiesced not wishing to be ‘unfriendly’, his own word, perhaps an indication of his naivety, in not wishing to be confrontational to the men he had met while accessing [internet] chat rooms.” She said Peacock had been admitted to Plymouth’s Glenbourne psychiatric unit, from which he had been released to attend the hearing.
