2009: MAN JAILED FOR BIZARRE ATTACK ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man who launched an unusual assault on his former partner immediately after leaving court, where he had previously received a penalty for an earlier attack on her, has been sentenced to prison.
Gavin Hamilton accelerated his motorcycle and collided with Nicola McGregor’s Peugeot 106, causing the driver’s side door to become jammed.
As she tried to exit from the passenger side, he shattered the glass of the driver’s door, according to prosecutor Kerry Moreton at Worcester Crown Court.
He then sped away and aggressively approached a police vehicle near his residence.
Hamilton, 37, from Deer Avenue, St Peter’s, Worcester, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after admitting charges of threatening a witness and committing two counts of dangerous driving.
Miss Moreton revealed that Hamilton had previously been sentenced by magistrates on March 2 to a community order for domestic violence against Miss McGregor, which involved pushing her into a bath.
The incident occurred when she was about to retrieve their daughter, but Hamilton confronted her on his motorcycle and damaged her car.
During his police custody, concerns about his mental health appeared as he made threats indicating he could be a danger to his girlfriend.
Charles Hamer, representing the defendant, presented letters from Hamilton’s parents and Miss McGregor requesting mental health assistance.
The court heard that Hamilton was attempting to explain himself to his girlfriend after court when she ignored him, triggering his violent response.
Mr Justice Colman Treacy QC stated that the victim was left in shock and fear, emphasizing that the court would not tolerate such treatment of witnesses.
Due to his reckless driving, Hamilton was disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to retake an extended driving test.
Furthermore, the community order previously issued by magistrates was revoked.
