GARY WHEELER BRISTOL OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD RAPE CASE IN 2004
In October 2004, a man named Gary Wheeler, aged 41 and residing in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol, was convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of children.Wheeler was sentenced to a lengthy term of 15 years in prison after admitting to multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency.
The Bristol Crown Court heard that the offences spanned over an eight-year period, during which Wheeler targeted vulnerable young victims.
Specifically, Wheeler faced nine counts of rape, thirteen counts of indecent assault, and four counts of gross indecency.
The severity of his crimes was underscored by the judge, Mr.
Justice Smith QC, who described the case as “the most horrific” he had ever presided over.
The court also imposed restrictions on Wheeler’s future conduct, banning him from having unsupervised access to children under the age of 16.
Following his conviction, authorities emphasized the gravity of the case.
Detective Sergeant Mark Rolfe, a member of Avon and Somerset Police’s child protection team, stated, “This is probably as serious as child abuse gets.
The defendant has demonstrated that he is very dangerous to children – he was very manipulative and took advantage of the most vulnerable in our society.” It was noted that Wheeler, who worked as a barman, had now been released from prison and was living in Torquay, raising concerns about ongoing safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from predators like him.
