GARY MORGAN AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN NEWPORT

Gary Morgan, a 59-year-old man from Newport, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences committed against young girls during the 1980s and 1990s.

His actions, driven by what was described in court as his 'depraved sexual urges,' have left lasting scars on his victims and have brought him to justice after decades of silence.

The court proceedings revealed that Morgan targeted two young girls over a span of several years.

The first victim recounted that Morgan had touched her inappropriately, including her naked genitalia, chest, and bottom.

The abuse was interrupted when she shouted 'No' as Morgan attempted to continue his assault.

During the sentencing hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, the presiding judge, Recorder Dyfed Thomas, commented on Morgan’s pathetic attempt at an apology, noting that Morgan claimed he thought the girl liked it.

The judge emphasized that the girl, as a child, was brave enough to resist and that her courage prevented further abuse.

The second victim also suffered at Morgan’s hands on two separate occasions.

The first incident involved Morgan pinning her arms against her sides, forcing her legs apart, and pressing his body against her.

On a subsequent occasion, he pushed her down, held her down, and again pressed himself against her.

These acts of assault left the second girl deeply traumatized, and her account highlighted the ongoing emotional impact of Morgan’s actions.

Decades after the abuse, both victims found the strength to come forward and report Morgan to the police.

He was subsequently brought to trial, where he denied all allegations, claiming that the victims were lying.

Despite his denials, Morgan was found guilty of six counts of indecent assault.

It was noted that Morgan, who resides at Jackson Court, had no previous convictions relevant to these offences.

During the court hearing, a victim personal statement was read out by prosecutor Nigel Fryer.

The first victim described her childhood as one filled with constant fear and physical pain, stemming from the trauma inflicted by Morgan.

She expressed her fears that disclosing the abuse might have led to violence and shared her ongoing struggles with nightmares, guilt, and trust issues.

She explained that the abuse had affected her education and her ability to trust authority figures, leading her to become a destructive teenager.

She also expressed remorse for not speaking out sooner, believing that her silence might have prevented further abuse.

The second victim also shared her emotional struggles, describing her fear and helplessness during the incidents.

She explained that Morgan’s actions left her feeling weak and vulnerable, and that the memories of the abuse have stayed with her throughout her life.

Her account underscored the lasting emotional damage caused by Morgan’s predatory behaviour.

In mitigation, defence barrister Thomas Stanway argued that Morgan was living a chaotic lifestyle at the time of the offences, battling alcohol issues.

However, he highlighted that Morgan had since turned his life around, establishing a stable relationship of 23 years and maintaining consistent employment in the construction industry.

Stanway described Morgan as a family man and a hardworking individual.

Despite these mitigating factors, Recorder Dyfed Thomas sentenced Morgan to a total of seven years in prison.

The court also imposed several additional measures, including sex offender notification requirements, an indefinite restraining order, and a sexual harm prevention order lasting for 15 years.

The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of Morgan’s crimes, labeling him a 'predatory paedophile' whose offences were opportunistic and driven by his own depraved desires, emphasizing the serious nature of his misconduct in Newport.
